I’ve decided to make this my last newsletter that I e-mail out. For a while now I’ve been noticing how my niche audience of business people and executives comment on being overwhelmed by the quantity of e-mail they receive. Large companies are taking innovative steps to deal with this problem. For example, French IT firm Atos revealed their decision to ban internal e-mails by 2014, and Volkswagen announced they would turn off Blackberry e-mails after work hours in 2011.
It’s important to me my ideas reach my audience when they’re in a mood ready to be engaged. The best ways I’ve found of doing this are through social media and RSS feeds. In essence, you have the freedom to choose when you want to consume my content. So going forward please use one of the buttons on the left hand side of my website to keep in touch.
If Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are not your thing, just pop by when you remember me and it feels fun! I’m always happy to receive your e-mails. I still answer them myself which allows for a personal touch. More than 80% of my work now comes from word-of-mouth referrals – people like you who remember the positive impact I’ve made on them and can’t help sharing what I do – and repeat visits.
My own reason for taking this unorthodox step is because it feels like a better approach for me. I noticed I was hesitating to publish a newsletter for many months. Going forward, just writing when ideas come to mind and sharing in a relaxed way feels so much more in keeping with the nature of my business, and even serendipitous! Finally, my workload has grown as I’m now working with more large companies – I recently ran an Emotional Intelligence workshop for the people behind Butlins – and I’m choosing not to make time to write a newsletter.
Thank you for being on my newsletter list all these years. It’s been a great learning experience and it’s been a pleasure to have you as my audience! I hope we stay in touch.
