This phrase has come up in my online exploring so much recently. I love its meaning! It is 'the ability to think about your own thinking'. Why does this matter? It leads to a more impactful and successful way of approaching your work, life and anything you care about.
This 6 minute video provides an excellent overview about the value of developing metacognition.

Developing this resource may also be a way to set yourself apart as an EFTer or coach. As with many areas of work, these days there's the fear that AI will take over your work. If your favourite Large Language Model can do your work then why would anyone hire you to coach them?
I think AI will reduce the need for coaches who do superficial window dressing, or EFTers who stick to pedestrian mechanical tapping. You could get away with that in the past, but AI is way cheaper than you at this.
But the facilitators who do deep reflective work will always be in demand. This is because they know how to hold space, drive a session, ask deeply helpful questions where powerful insights can be drawn . . . And they make life easier and better.
How can you develop this skill? Here are 3 ideas to help you.
1. Reflect after every session you run: what went well, and what could you have done better? Tap on the latter. You will be astonished at how your style and business grow.
This is the single most important element to how I've grown my own business. It's helped me get better every step of the way. Most days I'm not even sure what I do is work. I get the immense joy in watching humans grow into more of their True Selves in front of my eyes in very powerful ways. Is that really work?
2. In taking part in training or mentoring, ask yourself is this helping me tick boxes or enabling me to grow as a person who can hold a safe reflective space for my clients?
How can 6 hours in a single day of mentoring deal with my needs for growth across a whole year? Is it helping me hide by treading water or am I growing at a deep level of my being? What level of reflective mirror is being offered to look at areas for my growth?
3. If I take a step back from this problematic situation, what one thing do I notice which I’d previously missed?
Take one of these and walk with the key question for a week and see how you feel at the end of it. And remember, less is more. Focus on one thing and you will see more results than a splatter gun effect spread across lots of doing.
